Digital Product Passport

Complete transparency from grain to glass

What is a Digital Product Passport?

A Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a structured set of digital data about a product, accessible via a QR code, RFID, or NFC tag. It aims to improve transparency regarding sustainability, materials, and production, support the circular economy and traceability, and comply with the European Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) activated since 2024.

 Technical Implementation

We built the DPP with forward-compatible, open standards to ensure longevity and integrity.

📅 Step-by-Step Framework

1. Product Identification

  • Every bottle receives a GTIN (Global Trade Item Number)

  • Our example: 05412345000019

  • Encoded via GS1 Digital Link in a scannable QR code

2. Structured Data Format

  • JSON-LD format

  • Human- and machine-readable metadata about the beer

3. QR Code Generation

4. EPCIS 2.0 Traceability

  • We use EPCIS (Electronic Product Code Information Services) to track:

  • Production time

  • Batch number

  • Distribution event logs

5. Hosting & Access Control

  • Public data (ingredients, footprint) is accessible by all

  • Sensitive data (production processes) protected via role-based access

  • Infrastructure is GDPR-compliant and ready for SSI (Self-Sovereign Identity) and Verifiable Credentials

6. Compliance & Security

  • Meets EU ESPR standards

  • Follows ISO 22005 (food chain traceability)

  • Optional Gaia-X compatibility and future Verifiable Credentials
